About the Author

Arvind Gupta is a pioneering Indian educator, scientist, and author who has dedicated his life to making science fun and accessible for children. Born in 1953, Gupta graduated from IIT Kanpur and initially worked in industry before discovering his passion for science communication and education. He is widely recognized for creating innovative toys and experiments from everyday waste materials, which he uses to teach scientific concepts in a simple, engaging way. His book Matchstick Models and Other Science Experiments has been translated into multiple languages and continues to inspire children across the world. Gupta has worked extensively with educational institutions, NGOs, and media platforms, spreading his philosophy of “toys from trash” to promote learning through play. His TED Talks and YouTube videos have reached millions, further cementing his role as one of India’s most effective science communicators. For his contributions, he has received numerous awards, including the Padma Shri. Arvind Gupta’s lifelong mission has been to ignite curiosity and creativity in young minds, making him a true champion of child-centered education and scientific inquiry.
