Kabir was a curious 12-year-old boy who loved to ask "Why?" about everything. From why the sky was blue to why mangoes were so sweet, Kabirâs mind was always buzzing with questions. But one question that Kabir always wondered about was, "Why do things fall down? Why donât they float like balloons?"
One bright afternoon, while Kabir was sitting in the school playground, his ball bounced off the ground and went flying into the air. As he watched it, wondering why it never floated away, he suddenly heard a voice behind him.
"Arre Kabir, why so serious?" a deep, old voice asked. Kabir turned around and saw a strange figure standing there â an old man with a long white beard, dressed in a blue robe, floating slightly above the ground.
âWho are you?â Kabir asked, blinking in surprise.
"I am Gravity!" the old man said, smiling. âAnd Iâm here to answer your âwhy.ââ
âGravity?â Kabir repeated, scratching his head. âThe force that makes things fall?â
âYes!â Gravity said, nodding. âIâm the reason your ball always comes down, and not just your ball, everything! I pull everything towards the ground. If it werenât for me, youâd be floating around, just like a balloon or a leaf in the wind.â
Kabirâs eyes widened. âWait, so you mean to say⊠you make things fall?â
âExactly!â Gravity laughed. âWhenever you throw something up, I pull it back down. Thatâs my job! I pull everything â from a tiny pebble to even big, heavy cars!â
Kabir scratched his head, still confused. âBut why do you do it? Canât we have some things stay in the air?â
âWell, Kabir,â Gravity said, settling down on a nearby bench, âImagine if I didnât exist. Everything, including you, would float around in the air. Your ball wouldnât come down, and neither would you. Youâd be spinning in circles, flying into the sky, bumping into things. Not fun, right?â
Kabirâs eyes grew wide. âSo, without you, I could be flying all over the place?â
Gravity chuckled. âYes, exactly! It would be chaos. You wouldnât even be able to walk or sit still. Thatâs why I pull things back down. I keep things grounded.â
Kabir thought about it for a moment. âBut why do I have to feel you pulling me? I never see you!â
Gravity grinned. âAh, thatâs the magic of science! You canât see me, but you can always feel me. The force that I exert on you â that pull â is invisible, but itâs there. Whether itâs a falling apple or a bouncing ball, Iâm behind it. Even when you jump, Iâm the one pulling you back down.â
Kabirâs face lit up. âOkay, so if youâre here, why do things sometimes stay up? Like when a kite flies or a bird soars in the sky?â
âWell, good question,â Gravity said. âSee, Iâm always pulling things down, but other forces like air pressure or the wind can sometimes push things up and fight against me. Thatâs why your kite can stay up in the air for a while â the wind gives it an upward push. But after some time, I win, and the kite comes back down.â
Kabir grinned. âOkay, now I understand! Youâre like the invisible boss of everything that stays on the ground. But youâre not too bad, right?â
Gravity laughed heartily. âOf course not! Iâm what keeps the world in balance. Without me, nothing would stay in place, and everything would be a mess. Imagine trying to carry your books and having them float away whenever you took your hand off them!â
Kabir nodded thoughtfully. âThat would be annoying! So, you keep everything steady, huh?â
âExactly!â Gravity said, floating up a little higher and looking down at Kabir. âI keep everything grounded â literally and figuratively.â
Suddenly, Kabir had an idea. He picked up a handful of grass and threw it up into the air. âNow, letâs see what happens!â he said, watching it fall back to the ground.
âSee?â Gravity said with a wink. âIt all comes back down because of me. No exceptions.â
Kabir laughed. âOkay, okay! I get it now. Thank you for explaining! Youâre a pretty cool guy, Gravity!â
âYouâre welcome, Kabir!â Gravity said, smiling. âNow, the next time you throw something in the air, just remember â itâs not magic. Itâs me, working hard to keep everything in place.â
Kabir nodded. âIâll never forget that! I guess we can always trust Gravity to make sure we stay on the ground, right?â
âRight!â Gravity said, disappearing into the air with a final wink. âNow go on, enjoy your game. But remember â Iâll always be here, keeping things grounded.â
Kabir watched as the wind picked up, and his kite soared into the sky. But he knew that no matter how high it went, it would eventually come back down. And that, he realized, was a good thing.
As he kicked his ball back to his friends, Kabir smiled to himself. He now understood that everything had a purpose, and sometimes, even invisible forces like Gravity were the ones making sure the world stayed in balance.
