Raghav and Meera were sitting under a tree in their schoolâs garden during break time. The sun was shining brightly, and the smell of fresh grass filled the air. They were talking about their geography lesson when Raghav suddenly picked up a rock from the ground.
âMeera, look at this rock! I wonder how it was formed,â said Raghav, turning the rock over in his hand.
Meera squinted at the rock. âI think itâs just a regular rock. Nothing special about it.â
But before Raghav could respond, the rock in his hand started to shimmer, and a strange, friendly voice echoed around them. âActually, Iâm very special!â
Both kids jumped back, their eyes wide in shock. âWho said that?â Meera asked, looking around.
The voice spoke again. âDown here, you silly humans! Itâs me, Rocky!â
Raghav and Meera looked down, and to their surprise, the rock in Raghavâs hand had started to grow legs, arms, and even a big, smiley face! Rocky the Rock was now a walking, talking rock!
âRocky! You can talk?â Raghav exclaimed.
âOf course, I can!â Rocky replied with a wink. âAnd Iâm here to teach you about the Rock Cycle. You two are curious, right?â
Meeraâs eyes sparkled. âThe Rock Cycle? Whatâs that? Sounds like a video game!â
Rocky chuckled. âWell, itâs not a video game, but itâs just as exciting! Let me show you how I got here, and how Iâll change over time.â
âReady for a ride through the Earthâs layers?â Rocky asked.
âLetâs go!â Meera shouted, eager for an adventure.
Suddenly, the ground beneath them began to shake, and the kids were lifted into the air by a magical force. They found themselves falling into a tunnel that led deep into the Earth. After what seemed like a few seconds, they landed gently on a soft, sandy ground.
âWelcome to the Earthâs crust!â Rocky said proudly. âThis is where all the action happens.â
âWhoa! Weâre deep underground!â Raghav said, amazed.
âYes, and this is where the Rock Cycle begins,â explained Rocky. âI start my life as magma inside the Earth. Thatâs like super-hot melted rock.â
âSounds dangerous!â Meera said, but Rocky just laughed.
âItâs all part of the process. When magma cools down, it becomes solid and hard. Thatâs when I turn into an igneous rock. Like this,â Rocky said, pointing to a shiny, black rock nearby.
âThatâs cool!â said Raghav. âSo, you were once lava?â
âYup! Iâm an igneous rock,â said Rocky proudly. âBut after some time, I might get worn down by wind and rain. I could get broken into smaller pieces, and those pieces could travel down rivers, lakes, and oceans.â
âLike sand?â Meera asked, looking at the ground.
âExactly!â Rocky nodded. âThose tiny pieces get squished together over time, and I can become a sedimentary rock. Itâs like Iâm being reborn!â
Suddenly, the kids saw a massive pile of layered rocks forming on the ground. âLook, this oneâs smooth and has patterns,â Raghav pointed out.
âThatâs right!â said Rocky. âSedimentary rocks are formed from layers of sand, mud, and tiny bits of plants and animals. Over time, pressure and heat turn them into rock.â
âBut what happens if theyâre buried deeper?â Meera asked, curious.
âWell, if a sedimentary rock gets buried really deep under more layers of rock, the heat and pressure make it change into a metamorphic rock,â said Rocky.
âLike you become a whole new rock?â Raghav asked.
âExactly! You could say I get a makeover,â Rocky said, laughing. âI might change into a shiny marble or a hard slate. Itâs like rock yoga â stretching and changing under pressure!â
Suddenly, the ground started to rumble again. The kids were lifted up and out of the tunnel, back to the surface, and found themselves sitting on the grass again.
âWow, that was amazing!â Meera said, still catching her breath.
âSo, all rocks go through these changes?â Raghav asked, looking at the rocks around them.
âYes!â Rocky said, now back to his original rock form. âFrom igneous to sedimentary to metamorphic, the Rock Cycle keeps going. Itâs natureâs way of recycling rocks, and it happens all around you â you just need to look closely!â
âIâm going to pay more attention to rocks now!â Raghav said with a grin.
âMe too!â Meera agreed. âThanks, Rocky! You taught us so much.â
âNo problem!â Rocky said. âRemember, change is a part of life. Even rocks donât stay the same. So, keep learning, keep growing, and donât be afraid of change!â
And with that, Rocky winked and rolled away, leaving Raghav and Meera with a lot to think about. They smiled at each other, knowing they had just learned something cool â and maybe, just maybe, they would look at every rock a little differently from now on.
Moral of the Story:
Change is a natural part of life, just like the rock cycle. Whether itâs in rocks or in ourselves, we should embrace change and learn from it, growing and improving along the way.
