The Farmer’s Cold - Blooded Friend
00:00 / 02:35

In a small village wrapped in the chill of winter, there lived a kind-hearted man named Ben. Ben was known for his generosity and love for all creatures. Nearby, a little snake named Slinky shivered in the cold, trying to find warmth under a stone.

One cold morning, as Ben walked through his fields, he noticed Slinky almost frozen, not moving at all.

“Poor thing, you’ll freeze out here,” Ben murmured, gently picking up Slinky.

In his warm, cozy barn, Ben made a little bed of hay for Slinky. “Here, you’ll be safe and warm,” he said with a smile.

“Thank you, Ben,” Slinky hissed softly, feeling the warmth seep into his scales.

Days passed, and Slinky enjoyed the farmer's company. They shared many chats and laughs. Ben would talk about his day, and Slinky would listen, his eyes twinkling.

“Why do you help me so?” Slinky asked one day as they looked out at the snowy fields.

“Everyone deserves kindness, no matter how big or small,” Ben replied, sprinkling some water for Slinky to drink.

But as the days grew warmer, Slinky began to feel his old instincts stirring within him. One afternoon, as Ben reached down to feed him, Slinky bit his hand.

“Ouch!” Ben cried out, shocked. “Slinky, why?”

“I don’t know why I did that,” Slinky hissed back, equally surprised by his action.

Ben treated his wound, his heart heavy. “It seems some natures can’t change, even with all the love in the world,” he sighed.

As Ben pondered what to do, his neighbor, Mrs. Maple, came by. “Ben, I heard about the snake. You have such a big heart. But be careful; not everyone sees the world as kindly as you do.”

“You may be right, Mrs. Maple,” Ben agreed, looking at Slinky with a sad smile.

In the end, Ben decided it was time for Slinky to go back to the fields. “I hope you find your way, Slinky, and remember the warmth not just from the barn but from being cared for,” Ben said as he released Slinky into the grass.

“I will remember, Ben,” Slinky hissed, slithering away, a mix of freedom and regret in his heart.

Children, the story of Ben and Slinky teaches us that while kindness is a beautiful gift, not everyone can accept it the same way. But that shouldn’t stop us from being kind, for it’s the warmth of our hearts that truly makes a difference in the cold world.
