It was a regular Saturday evening in Mumbai, or at least it seemed that way. Aarav was lounging on his balcony, scrolling through his phone, bored out of his mind. The summer heat was getting unbearable, and his friends were all busy with their summer projects, which meant Aarav had zero plans for the weekend.
He was just about to give up on the idea of having any fun when his phone buzzed.
“Bro, have you heard the new ghost ship rumors?” texted Sameer, Aarav's best friend.
Aarav rolled his eyes. “Ghost ships? Really? Dude, you’ve been watching too many horror movies.”
Sameer replied with a series of skull emojis. “This one’s real, bro. Some ship vanished at sea years ago, and they say it’s still out there, stuck in a never-ending storm... haunted by a ghost.”
“Haunted ships don’t exist, Sameer,” Aarav chuckled. “But hey, what’s the story? Tell me more.”
The message that followed sounded straight out of a scary movie. “They say the ship’s captain was cursed, and now his ghost wanders the ship, trying to find peace. But no one knows where it is. Some people say it appears during the foggiest nights, out in the middle of nowhere.”
Aarav laughed, shaking his head. "Dude, you're overdoing it." But curiosity crept into his mind. After all, what if there was something to this story?
That night, as Aarav was about to hit the bed, a strange noise startled him. It was like someone knocking... but from the direction of his window. He peeked outside, his heart racing. The fog was thick—too thick for a normal Mumbai night. There, barely visible in the mist, was something unusual: a flickering light, like a lantern moving slowly across the sea. It looked like a ship. Aarav’s heart skipped a beat.
He grabbed his phone and texted Sameer. “You serious about that ghost ship? Because I think I see it right now.”
Sameer responded almost instantly. “Bro, you gotta check it out. It’s probably the one!”
And without thinking twice, Aarav raced to the nearest dock. He didn’t know what was happening, but he couldn’t let an adventure slip away. By the time he reached the shore, the mist was so thick that he could barely see his own feet. But there, in the distance, the haunted ship was real.
Suddenly, a soft voice called out from behind him.
“Are you looking for the ship, boy?”
Aarav spun around. There, floating in mid-air, was a glowing figure. A ghost. He froze, his eyes wide with shock.
“I... I... What the—” Aarav stammered.
The ghost chuckled. "I know, it's a lot to process. My name’s Golu. I’ve been stuck on that ship for ages, and I’m kinda hoping you can help me out."
Aarav blinked twice. “Wait, hold on. You’re a ghost?”
Golu smiled. “Yep. Sorry for the spook factor. I don’t mean to scare you. But I need your help. The ship’s been trapped in a storm for years, and I can’t move on until I find something that was lost long ago.”
Aarav’s mind was racing. “So, you’re telling me this ship’s been out there, stuck in a storm, and you’re... the ghost of the captain or something?”
“Exactly! But I wasn’t always a ghost. I was the captain, yes, but there was a terrible curse. My crew... they left me behind when I needed them the most.” Golu's voice softened. “Now, I can’t leave the ship until I find something important. Something that will set my soul free.”
Aarav’s heart softened. "What is it you need?"
Golu floated closer, his ghostly form flickering in the dim light. “I need... a map. The one I hid before the storm. I buried it somewhere on the ship, but I don’t remember where. If you find it, I’ll be free.”
Aarav didn’t even think twice. “Alright, let’s do it. I’m in.”
The two of them set off towards the ship, Aarav with a mix of fear and excitement. As they boarded the ship, the wooden planks creaked underfoot, and the mist surrounded them like a blanket. The ship looked ancient—like something straight out of a pirate movie.
Golu led the way, pointing to different parts of the ship, but the map was nowhere to be found. Aarav searched every nook and cranny, feeling the pressure mounting. "Where could it be?" he muttered to himself.
Suddenly, Aarav stumbled upon a dusty old chest in the captain's quarters. With a loud creak, it opened, revealing... a small, weathered map. Golu’s ghostly face lit up with joy.
“You found it!”
The ship began to shake as the storm around them grew louder, but Golu held the map in his hands, finally feeling a sense of peace. “Thank you, Aarav. You’ve no idea what this means to me.”
Aarav smiled. “Well, what happens now?”
The ghost nodded. “Now, I can finally leave this ship. You’ve helped me find peace. I can go now.”
With that, Golu’s glowing figure slowly faded away into the night, and the ship began to calm. The fog lifted, revealing the stars above. Aarav stood there, in awe, as the haunted ship sailed off into the distance, free at last.
And just like that, Aarav had experienced the most unexpected adventure of his life.
The End.
