Rohan had never been a big fan of studying history. The way his teacher went on about kings and wars made his brain feel like it was in a constant nap. “Ugh, when will this end?” he groaned, staring at his textbook. But something happened one lazy afternoon that changed everything.
Rohan had just returned from his usual “study break” (aka, playing games on his phone) when he noticed something strange. The backyard of his house was no longer the same. The grass was greener, the air fresher, and... wait... were those flowers always there?
The backyard, once simple and plain, now had rows of colorful flowers that looked straight out of a fantasy movie. But what caught Rohan’s eye the most was a shimmering light coming from one particular flower. Without thinking, he stepped closer.
As he touched the glowing petal, a sudden pull in his stomach made Rohan gasp. “Wha... what’s happening?” Before he could even finish the thought, he was falling... or rather, flying.
When Rohan opened his eyes, the world around him had completely changed. The modern city street had vanished, replaced by a dusty road lined with people in colorful clothes. His phone was gone, and in its place, a bunch of old coins in his pocket. He blinked.
“Where... where am I?” he whispered to himself, looking around in confusion. “This doesn’t look like Delhi.”
A man with a huge turban and a long beard walked past him, staring at Rohan curiously. “Aarey, kid, you lost?” the man asked in a thick accent.
Rohan looked at the man, then at the clothes around him. This isn’t 2024, he thought. The smell of burning wood and spices filled the air. It was like stepping into an old painting of India—he was back in the pre-Independence era!
He tried to ask the man more questions, but before he could say anything, the world around him swirled, and poof—Rohan was back in his backyard.
Rohan stood there, panting. “What... just... happened?”
He looked at the flower again. It was glowing even brighter now, almost like it was waiting for him. With trembling fingers, Rohan reached out and touched it again.
This time, instead of falling, he was pulled forward, as though the garden itself was pushing him through time. A bright flash, and suddenly, he was standing on a beach.
“Okay... this is... too weird,” Rohan mumbled.
In front of him, he saw enormous ships with sails, a bustling port, and men in clothes he’d only seen in his history books. He realized he was now standing in the Vijayanagar Empire during its peak! He could hear merchants shouting and selling goods, while soldiers practiced with their swords in the distance.
“Wait... wait... is this real?” he muttered, stepping into the crowd. A merchant caught his attention, "Kid! Want some spices from across the sea?"
“I... I’m not sure how I got here,” Rohan said, looking around, feeling like he was stuck in the middle of a history lesson he never asked for.
Each flower was a door to a new time, Rohan realized. The garden, his secret garden of time, could take him anywhere in history.
One after another, he ventured through different eras—ancient India, the Mughal Empire, British colonial times, even the future, though that was a little too confusing. Each trip was more exciting than the last. He saw the Taj Mahal being built, the first train arriving in India, and even the first cricket match played.
“You know,” Rohan said to himself after one of his time-traveling adventures, “history isn’t so bad when you live it instead of reading about it.”
But it wasn’t all fun and games. As Rohan traveled, he realized that history wasn’t just about the good parts—there was struggle, pain, and things that couldn’t be changed. He learned that sometimes, even the smallest actions had huge consequences.
One day, after traveling to the time of the Indian Freedom Struggle, Rohan found himself standing in front of a huge protest. He saw people chanting, holding flags, and marching towards a British officer.
“Rohan, you need to decide where you stand,” a voice said behind him. He turned around, but no one was there. It was the garden, it seemed, talking to him. “This is the past you’re witnessing. But the future... is yours to shape.”
Rohan thought about it for a long time. Was history just a story, or was it a guide? He had always hated history class, but now, it was starting to make sense. The past shaped the present, but the present—his present—would shape the future.
When Rohan finally returned to his backyard, the garden was quiet again. No more time portals. Just regular flowers.
But Rohan was different. He had seen things that no textbook could ever show him.
“Well,” he grinned, pulling out his phone, “history lesson, take two?”
The secret garden of time had given him the adventure of a lifetime. And who knows? Maybe next time, he’d find a flower that took him to the moon!
The End.
Moral of the Story:
Sometimes, to understand the future, we need to learn from the past. And who knows, maybe your next adventure will be in a place you least expect it!
