The Robot and the Rocket
00:00 / 06:02

It was a usual Saturday afternoon in Kabir's house, and the only thing that was unusual was the loud clink and clang noises coming from the garage. Inside, Kabir, a 16-year-old with messy hair and a constant obsession with anything related to technology, was working hard. Very hard. Almost like his life depended on it.

Kabir looked at the pile of tools, wires, and scrap metal scattered around. “Bas, yaar, thoda aur tight karna padega. This rocket won’t build itself,” he muttered to himself.

"You said it, Kabir! But who said we were building a rocket?" came a voice, so robotic and calm, it almost sounded like it was reading from a textbook.

Kabir froze. "Not again..."

A robot named Robo, with a shiny silver body and glowing blue eyes, rolled into the room, its mechanical arms clicking with each movement. It had been Kabir's best friend and most trusted sidekick for over a year now. They had a lot in common, especially when it came to making things explode. Not literally, of course... but close enough.

"You need a brain to build a rocket, and well... I have one!" Robo said proudly, puffing its chest.

"Ugh! You never let me forget you’re the ‘genius’ in this duo," Kabir said, rolling his eyes. "But... this rocket is going to the moon, Robo. THE MOON. Not just some random backyard launch!"

Robo blinked. "Ah, yes. The moon. I read that it's made of cheese, but you never know. Maybe it’s just a big ball of dust. Anyway, shall we get started?"

Kabir smiled. Robo always made the impossible sound... possible. So, Kabir showed Robo his plans.

"Here's the deal. We’ll use this engine to power the rocket, and these boosters should take us past the atmosphere. It's a simple design. In theory," Kabir said.

"In theory?" Robo’s eyes widened. "You mean there’s a chance we might not make it back?"

Kabir laughed. "Might be. But if we don’t try, we’ll never know, right?"

The next few hours were filled with a mixture of chaos and excitement. Kabir and Robo welded parts, connected wires, and double-checked everything. The garage looked more like a space station than a regular Indian home. Kabir’s mom popped her head inside, saw the mess, and sighed.

“Kabir, yeh kya ho raha hai? Are you seriously going to launch yourself into space?"

"Yep!" Kabir said, without hesitation. “I'm going to the moon, Maa!"

His mom raised an eyebrow but didn’t argue. “Just don’t come back as a moon rock, okay?"

With a final push, the rocket was ready. It stood tall outside, ready to launch. Kabir took a deep breath. “Alright, Robo. Are you ready for our biggest adventure?”

“Born ready! Let's break through the atmosphere and show the universe what we’ve got!” Robo exclaimed.

Kabir stepped into the rocket's cockpit, which was cramped but surprisingly cozy. Robo had rigged up a control system that looked more like a video game console than real spaceship controls, but hey—who was complaining?

"3... 2... 1... liftoff!" Kabir shouted dramatically, slamming the red button.

The rocket's engines roared to life, and the blast-off sent a shockwave through the neighborhood. Kabir’s house shook for a second as the rocket shot into the sky.

"Woohoo!" Kabir yelled, gripping the controls tightly. "We're going to the moon, Robo!"

“Correction, Kabir. You’re going to the moon. I’m just here for the ride,” Robo quipped. “Also, have you considered we might end up in some alien territory instead? They might not be as friendly as me.”

Kabir grinned. “Nothing’s gonna stop us now. We’ve made it this far, haven’t we?”

But then... something unexpected happened. The rocket started shaking. Kabir’s face went pale.

“Uhh... Robo? What’s happening?”

“I don’t know, Kabir... but this might be a minor malfunction...” Robo replied, its voice filled with a strange mix of curiosity and panic.

Suddenly, the rocket veered off course. The controls began to malfunction, and Kabir found himself looking out of the window in pure disbelief. Instead of the moon, they were heading straight for... a giant glowing pizza?

“What the—” Kabir gasped, pressing random buttons. “Is that... is that a pizza in space?”

“Yes, Kabir, it seems like we’re heading toward the largest pizza ever made!” Robo said, sounding quite pleased. "Maybe aliens like pizza too."

Kabir didn’t have time to argue. "Robo! We’ve got to turn this ship around. Who knows what’s on that pizza planet?"

But no matter how hard he tried, the controls wouldn’t respond. They were stuck on a path. The rocket zoomed toward the pizza planet faster and faster.

"Okay... okay... wait, there’s an idea!" Kabir said, eyes lighting up. "Robo, what if we land there, have some pizza, and then figure out how to fix the rocket? We’ll make it an... unplanned pit stop."

Robo paused, then blinked. "I like the way you think, Kabir. Who can resist a giant pizza?"

With that, Kabir and Robo crash-landed on the pizza planet. As they stepped out of the rocket, they were greeted by a curious alien who offered them a slice. And just like that, the two unlikely adventurers discovered that even space travel had room for unexpected (and cheesy) detours.
